Costco Recalls Bissell Vacuums Over Fire Hazard Concerns...
Costco has issued an urgent recall for select Bissell vacuum cleaners sold in its U.S. stores due to potential fire hazards. The recall, announced Friday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects approximately 82,000 units of the Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro wet-dry vacuums sold between August 2023 and March 2026.
The recall follows 51 reported incidents of the vacuums overheating, including four cases of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. The affected models (model numbers 2554A, 2554E, and 2554W) were sold exclusively at Costco for $299$349.
Bissell and Costco are offering full refunds to customers who purchased the recalled vacuums. Consumers should immediately stop using the devices and contact Bissell at 866-895-1698 or visit Bissell's recall website for instructions.
The recall is trending nationally as many consumers purchased these popular pet-friendly vacuums during recent holiday sales. Social media users have shared concerns about the safety of similar appliances in their homes.
This marks the second major recall for Bissell products in three years. In 2023, the company recalled 3.2 million steam cleaners for burn hazards. The CPSC advises registering new appliances to receive timely safety notifications.
Costco members can return the vacuums to any warehouse for a full refund, even without the original receipt. The retailer has removed all affected units from shelves and online inventory. Bissell states it has implemented new quality control measures for future production.
