FIFA World Cup 2026 Ticket Sales Begin Amid High Demand...

Ticket sales for the 2026 FIFA World Cup officially launched today, sparking a surge of interest from U.S. soccer fans. The tournament, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, will be the first World Cup held across three nations, with 48 teams competing—the largest field in history.

The initial sales phase, which opened at 10 a.m. ET, includes individual match tickets and venue-specific packages. Demand has already overwhelmed FIFA's ticketing portal, with many users reporting long wait times and technical glitches. The U.S. is leading early purchases, particularly for matches in New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

This marks the first major ticketing milestone since FIFA confirmed the 16 host cities in 2022. The U.S. will host 60 of the 104 matches, including the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Prices range from $50 for group-stage matches to over $1,000 for knockout rounds, with VIP packages exceeding $10,000.

Fans have until May 16 to submit requests in the random-selection draw phase. Successful applicants will be notified by late June. Secondary markets like StubHub and SeatGeek are already listing resale tickets at inflated prices, raising concerns about accessibility.

The tournament's expanded format and North American location have driven unprecedented U.S. interest. U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson called it "a once-in-a-generation opportunity" to grow the sport domestically. With the U.S. men's team expected to compete, analysts predict record-breaking viewership and attendance.

FIFA warns against unauthorized resellers, emphasizing that only tickets purchased through its platform guarantee entry. The next sales phase, featuring team-specific bundles, opens in November after the tournament draw.
