Gas Prices Surge Nationwide Amid Global Oil Market Volatility...

Gas prices across the United States have spiked sharply today, reaching levels not seen since late 2025. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline has climbed to $4.35 per gallon, up 12 cents from last week, according to AAA. This sudden increase has sparked widespread concern among drivers and businesses alike.

The surge is largely attributed to escalating tensions in key oil-producing regions and OPEC+ production cuts announced earlier this month. Analysts warn that prices could continue to rise in the coming weeks, particularly as the summer driving season approaches. "We're seeing a perfect storm of factors driving this increase," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Consumers are feeling the pinch, with many expressing frustration on social media. "Filling up my truck cost over $100 today," tweeted one driver in California, where prices are already above $5 per gallon in some areas. Small businesses reliant on transportation are also grappling with the impact, with some considering price adjustments to offset rising fuel costs.

The Biden administration has acknowledged the issue, with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm stating that "all options are on the table" to stabilize prices. However, experts caution that there are no quick fixes, as global market dynamics continue to exert upward pressure on oil prices. With Memorial Day weekend just weeks away, many Americans are bracing for what could be an expensive summer travel season.
