Nick Smith Jr. Makes NBA Draft Decision After Stellar Season...

Arkansas guard Nick Smith Jr. announced his decision to enter the 2026 NBA Draft on Monday, capping a standout collegiate career that has scouts buzzing. The 20-year-old sophomore confirmed his plans in a social media post, thanking Razorbacks fans and coaches for their support.

Smith's declaration comes after averaging 18.7 points and 4.2 assists per game this season, leading Arkansas to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. His explosive scoring ability and defensive versatility have made him a projected lottery pick in most mock drafts.

The announcement is trending nationally as Smith represents one of this draft class's most intriguing prospects. His combination of athleticism and polished offensive skills has drawn comparisons to NBA All-Star Devin Booker. ESPN's Jonathan Givony currently ranks Smith as the No. 8 overall prospect.

Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman praised Smith's development during his two seasons in Fayetteville. "Nick grew tremendously as both a player and leader," Musselman told reporters Wednesday. "He's ready for the next challenge."

NBA teams needing backcourt help are reportedly high on Smith, with the Orlando Magic (projected No. 6 pick) and Indiana Pacers (No. 9) showing particular interest. The draft combine begins May 12 in Chicago, where Smith will have his first official NBA workouts.

Smith's decision follows a recent trend of Arkansas players succeeding in the NBA, including current stars Moses Moody and Isaiah Joe. The Razorbacks have produced 12 first-round picks since 2010, the fifth-most among NCAA programs.

The 2026 NBA Draft will take place June 25 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Smith becomes the eighth player from this year's Sweet 16 teams to declare for the draft, joining Duke's Cooper Flagg and Purdue's Kanon Catchings as early entrants.
